Out of the Mouths of Babes

One of the things I love about teaching preschool are the hilarious things kids say to me on a daily basis. Today my co-teacher and I started laughing so hard we almost couldn't regain control in order to teach the class!

Here are two of today's gems:

1. We were talking about thinking hard and wearing your "thinking cap" and one little girl said, "My thinking cap is in the wash today!" Adorable.

2. We were discussing why shouting out in class (as opposed to raising your hand) is rude. A boy raised his hand (he got the message!) and said, " My mom says it's rude when my dad puts his hand down his pants. " We didn't quite know what to say to that one! Priceless.

Comments like that make me afraid to send Addyson to school one day. Parents, beware!

Oh, I would love to have your job for a day. I'd have a lot to write about. :)

For better or worse, kids always tell the truth. I was feeling good about a recent haircut one day, when a student came to the library and said, "Mrs. Carlson, did you get your haircut?" I smiled and said, "yes, I did" when she replied, "Why?" She said it in a tone of voice like "Are you crazy? What were you thinking to do such a stupid thing?" But at least when they give you a compliment, you know they mean it. I had a kindergartener tell me the other day she liked how my lipstick matched my shoes! Sweet!

I love it! Just wait 'till Addy starts chatting it up. She'll be telling complete strangers things like "My mom says I can't buy markers because we spend all our money on diapers." (Troy)

Or "Mommy spank my bum. Hard." (Brigg) Looks like I've been "outed". ~Sigh~
