The Battle of the Bulge

I'll just come out and admit it: I'm pleasantly plump (although, is plump ever pleasant?). I gained WAY too much weight when I was pregnant with Addyson (I'm ashamed to admit: 45 lbs.). So far, I have not tried very hard to lose it. I naturally lost 25 and I was HOPING that nursing would take off the other 20. HA! Whoever said that nursing helps you lose weight is a liar. (Or perhaps it has something to do with me eating massive amounts of chocolate daily.) Either way, about 2 weeks ago I decided SOMETHING had to change when Brandon and I had this conversation (notice the quotation marks):

Brandon: "WE" should start eating healthier.

ME: "WE?" Since when do you care about health? (Brandon has NEVER shown any interest in nutrition or fitness.)

Brandon: I just think "WE" should start eating better. "LET'S" cut out all sugar until June.

It was blatantly obvious that he just wants me to lose weight. Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but my husband ADORES candy. We usually have an entire cupboard full of sugary treats. So for him to suggest this is crazy talk. We just found out that his sister Emily is getting married in June, so this gives "US" a goal to shoot for. So it's official: "WE" are cutting out all sweets until her wedding. This includes candy, ice cream, cookies, cake, pie, and yes, chocolate. I've been doing this for 2 weeks now and it's not so bad! The first few days were brutal, but once the cravings stop, it's cake. (MMM, CAKE.....oops, back on track.)

So I am now actively trying to lose the weight. Here's my game plan:

1. Continue the no sugar thing as discussed.

2. Exercise at least 4 times a week.

3. Eat one apple every day. (Have you tried this? It's a great tip. It satisfies the sweet tooth, and fills you up.)

Last week, I achieved the exercise goal and the sugar goal. I haven't yet exercised this week, but the week is young.

I would love to hear your weight loss tips! Here's to a more svelte me!

Ugh, I feel for you sister! Granted I haven't had any kids, so I can't empathize there. However, I did gain weight when I went to Grad School for the first time...it sucked losing it! I think you look beautiful in all your pictures though :)

Ha! That dang pregnancy weight is a killer, don't beat yourself up over it though. You are beautiful and even if you gained 300 pounds while pregnant, you still would be. But that is cool that you and Brandon are working on a healthier lifestyle, maybe Jason and I will start doing the same thing. Thanks for the inspiration!

P.S. "You've Been Bag Tagged!"

Can't wait to see it!

Nikole, Is that YOU in the picture? Gosh, you look great! That outfit is rather inappropriate, though! Ha! You are young, it is much easier to lose in your twenties. Just the working out should do it if you're consistent. And when Addy starts walking, you'll get lots of exercise just chasing her! And Tawni's right, you are beautiful!

Tyler once had the nerve to suggest that I could be "healthier" (skinnier) and it did not go well for him--days of my crying and hostility.

I too have been focusing on this and it's so hard. The worst part is the only way through it is the hard way so you just have to do it. I will email more. Good job, though! Just think: 10 year reunion coming up.

I didn't know you pre-pregnancy, but I honestly think you look great! It takes a long time to get that weight off. My goal with my first one was by their first birtdhay...and I did it!! It took 9 months to put it on so don't beat yourself up too much.

I'm with you on the nursing causes weight loss...whatever!! You are only burning UP TO 500 extra calories a day, that's a sandwich!

If you want more of a challenge though you can join this weight loss challenge at:

Look on her blog, find the weight loss info, leave her a comment, and she'll email you all the rules. YOU CAN WIN PRIZES!!! So check it out and good luck. I know you can do it girl!

All I know is that I turn into a hedgehog when the weather is cold. What's up with that? I hate the winter and therefore have no motivation to move around and get active. Here's to spring! It's about time to turn over a new leaf.

I was as skinny or possibly skinner than when I got married as soon as I stopped breastfeeding Macy. So I have never believed the whole breastfeeding thing.

I have no suggestions for the candy thing. I have failed miserably everytime I have tried. Now I try to avoid the obvious sugar items such as candy and cake and allow small amounts of graham crackers or hot chocolate. Oh and I don't buy sweets or bake them.

I have some new pants I wore on vacation that don't fit anymore so I hope people post some good suggestions.

I LOVE that picture! Where did you get it? What do you do to exercise, especially since you have little ones? It's hard for me to find the time, b/c I get up at 5:30 to get to work by 6:30, come home, spend a few hours with my baby, and then go to sleep. I try to do aerobics at home but I just don't have the time or energy after Autumn goes down for the night. What have you been doing to exercise and fit it in to your day?

Lisa, I found the picture on Google images. Just type "scale" into the search and it will come up. Luckily I am fortunate enough to stay home with my daughter for my time being. So we go for long walks in the afternoon with her in the stroller. Or I go to the gym and do the elliptical trainer while my husband is home in the evenings.
