The Good, The Unexpected, and the Ugly

The Good (OR How to Remodel your Bedroom in 4 hours):

This is what happened to my bedroom one day last week.

10 a.m.: Brandon in bed, not moving. Note the unpainted wall and unsightly bedding.

12:00 noon: Brandon no longer in bed, unsightly bedding removed, and the wall starts turning blue.

2 p.m.: Brandon out, new bedding on bed, wall freshly painted, room cleaned.

(Note: We bought the paint and the bedding over six months ago, before Addy was born.)

The Unexpected (OR How to Have Lunch with Out of State Aunt Without Really Trying):

Saturday at 10:oo am I was still in my p.j.'s, reading blogs and typing up some stuff for Primary. My cell phone rings and it's my Aunt Julie, who lives in Vancouver, Washington. (Yes, I live in Meridian, ID.) Our conversation went something like this:

Me: Hi, Julie!

Julie: Do you want to have lunch today?

Me: TODAY? Don't you live in Vancouver?

Julie: Yes, today. Yes, I still live in Vancouver.

Me: Okay...

Julie: Pick me up at the airport in two hours.

Is that spontaneous or what? I picked her up at 2:50 p.m. and dropped her back off at the airport to go home (the same day) at 7:30 p.m. We had a great time visiting, eating at Chili's and catching up.

Who does that? It was crazy, but oh so fun!

(Note: Julie's husband, John, works for an airline and they fly for free.)

The Ugly (OR What Do I Do When my Baby Won't Nurse?) :

Addy, Four Months

NO, I don't think Addyson is ugly. Look at her...she's gorgeous (it's okay to gush about your own kid, right?). But lately she has been pushing my patience to it's limits. She has been a great nurser since about 1 week of age. She nurses quickly and efficiently, has been sleeping through the night since she was 9 weeks, and I haven't had any problems...until recently. Lately, every time I try to nurse her in the evening hours, she arches her back and screams like I'm pulling her toenails off. The chain of events goes like this:

I try to nurse her.
She refuses.
She screams and fights me.
I get frustrated.
I start crying.
Now we're both crying.
I yell at Brandon.
Addyson goes to bed hungry.
I go to bed mad at the world.
Addyson awakens me in the night to eat. (WHAT?!? I REFUSE to go back to this.)
The next morning she's happy as a clam and eats great.

(Note:This is seriously stressing me out, making me exhausted, and causing me to dread the evening hours.) Does anyone have any idea what might be going on here?

Hey, Steph Selcho here. Long time no talk to! I just had to tell you how beautiful your little girl is! I can sympathize with you about the nursing thing. My 3 month old boy is doing close to the same thing. Hang in there!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE your paint! And your husband! Could I borrow him for a week or two? Your room looks like a soothing sanctuary! How about when I visit I sleep in there since Brandon will be out of town? Oh, and can I bathe in your giant sunken tub? Thank you! Pick me up some glycerin soap. I like the fruity scents.

I love the room! Where did you get your bedding? I love it. Is it Restoration Hardware? If not, it looks it. The funniest is that you took the picture with Brandon in the bed. So fun about your aunt flying in. I hope I'm like that with my nieces and nephews someday. As for the nursing, it's probably just a temporary "nursing strike." So frustrating. I bet she'll push through. But you could pump and do a bottle for that feeding if you had to for a week or two. Getting up in the night HURTS.

Oh my gosh, I am laughing outloud about the nursing thing. I wish I could help you but I am bottle feeding Stella because I gave up on the idea of nursing. Your bedroom looks fantastic and I LOVE the bedding you chose. Why does brown look so good no matter what you pair it up with? Anyways, you are hilarious and I love your carseat, great choice! :)

Thanks for stopping by my food blog- yummy mac n cheese!
Your blog is so cute. Love the room makeover. Your little girl is a doll. And you have such cute ideas!
As for the nursing thing- a)you are so lucky she has always nursed well and starting sleeping thru the night at 9 weeks b) it stinks that she isn't now....It will pass. But in the mean time get a pedicure and Dr Pepper to survive (that's what I'd do)!
Hope you don't mind if I stop by again.

Your bedrooom looks fantastic. I've never painted in my life, so I am totally impressed.
Your little babe sounds like she's as stubborn as I am! We'd probably get along quite well.

I love the room. I am dying to re-do mine. I was thinking new comforter, but now I want new paint too. However, I have declared that I won't paint textured walls again. I am amazed that you were able to do it in 4 hours. I need your secret.

As for the nursing thing, I wish I could help but Macy and I didn't do well together at nursing. I stopped completely by 9 weeks. That should have been my foreshadowing. I hated nursing so much that I never nursed Kelsey. Ashley had a good idea about pumping or you could just supplement that feeding with formula.

Ya wanna come decorate my house? Or at least go shopping with me sometime to pick stuff out? I don't have "the eye" for household "fashion". :)

Your room is lovely, watch out Martha here comes Nikole!! The nursing thing gets better, hang in there. She is taking after her mom and likes to eat, nothing wrong with that?? I loved all your v-day gifts . It makes me realize my husband didn't get crap. Oh well as long as he doesn't know that there are cool wifes out there. What he doesn't know wont hurt him. I loved the b-day card Brandon did for ya. I always knew he had a girl side to him, ha ha It was all the extra time in the RC Willey's cubicle. ha ha love ya brandon. Your blog is way cute, i am a loser . I will need your help. Take care and talk to you soon.

Hey,

You don't know me, but I'm a friend of Ashley's. It's possible your little babe is experiencing some reflux (it's a myth that reflux babies spit up). When they are tired/cranky it can aggravate it.

My little one has it - it didn't show up until 4 months when it "peaks". I have her on some mild meds and it helps TONS. Ask your doc.
